For the first time since I bought my MacBook Pro, I got a DVD stuck in its drive. Pressing the usual ‘Eject’ button had no effect. On older Macs you could stick a paper clip into a little hole next to the drive to force it to give up its contents. I got a paper clip, opened it up and then found that my MBP lacks the little override hole. Bit of googling led me to an Apple Support forum post which mentioned the drutil utility.

I recently upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion (v10.8). The upgrade itself went without a hitch. Soon afterwards, however, I realised that the ‘sudo’ command had stopped working. (more…)
